According to reports, a Tinto sanctuary that is believed to influence a similar location in Ghost of Tsushima has banned tourists after an unleashed incident that involves foreigners. Called Watazumi Sanctuary, the Japanese site is located on the island of Tsushima, which is located southeast of South Korea.
Automaton reports that an official announcement of the Sanctuary of Watazumi on Instagram revealed the prohibition, stating that it is entering into force due to “a serious and unforgivable act of lack of respect committed by foreigners (s).” There were no more details about the incident, although apparently it is not the first time that problems occur on the site. It is believed that Watazumi’s sanctuary was the inspiration for the ghost of the Tsushima Scarlet Roca Sanctuary.
This connection allegedly led to the ghost of Tsushima fans who donated to Watazumi’s sanctuary after it was damaged by a typhoon in 2020, according to Famitsu. However, to be clear, there are no indications that the incident is in some way related to the PlayStation game fans base. This is not the only controversy of the sanctuary in video games. Ubisoft recently updated Assassin’s Creed Shadows so that players could no longer destroy elements within the sanctuaries in the game, which develops in Japan of the 16th century.
Ghost of Tsushima was originally launched on PS4 and PS5 in 2020, before reaching PC last year. The game is receiving an anime adaptation and a film has been in development with Johh Wick’s director, Chad Shahelski. Meanwhile, developer Sucker Punch is working on a sequel called Ghost of Tokei.
