President Donald Trump has signed an executive decree targeting the Smithsonian Institution, which operates more than 20 museums and research centers visited by millions each year in Washington DC and New York.
The order commands the vice-president “to eliminate the inappropriate, divider or anti-American ideology” of museums, centers and the national zoo of the Institute in Washington.
He also orders the interior secretary to restore federal properties, including parks, monuments and statues, which “have been poorly deleted or modified in the past five years to perpetuate a false revision of history”.
This decision is part of Trump’s efforts to shape American culture, in addition to politics.
The order is entitled “Restoring the truth and mental health to American history”. He indicates that Vice-President JD Vance, who has become a member of the Smithsonian Board of Regents because of his position in government, will led the purge.
Trump’s order indicates that Congress should not finance Smithsonian exhibitions and programs which “divide the Americans by race”. He alleges that the American Women’s History Museum, who is in development, plans to “recognize men as women”.
He also distinguishes the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, claiming that the museum “proclaimed that” hard work “,” individualism “and” nuclear family “are aspects of” white culture “. The museum opened in 2016 in Washington while former president Barack Obama, the first black American president, left his functions.
Smithsonian museums offer free entry to some 15 to 30 million visitors Each year. He operates 21 museums in Washington, Virgina and New York.
They understand the National Museum of American History, the National Portrait Gallery, the American Art Museum, the National Zoo and more than a dozen others.
The prescription also orders the interior secretary Doug Burgum to complete the “restorations and improvements” to Independence Hall in Philadelphia. This is the 250th anniversary of the signing of the declaration of independence, which took place in the building.
Trump decided to radically reshape American culture, which, according to him, was contaminated by the “awakened” left ideology. It has signed several orders intended to eliminate the programs of diversity, equity and inclusion of the federal government – some of which led to legal challenges.
Shortly after taking office, Trump dumped the board of directors of the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC and settled as president.
This decision led to generalized criticisms on the part of the actors and directors, which has canceled several upcoming performances.
