NASA said Thursday that it was moving towards the CST-100 Boeing Starliner certification for manned flights at the end of this year or early 2026 after its inaugural mission to the International Space Station was affected by a system failure, which forced a long stay.

The agency is working with Boeing to solve the Starliner’s defective propulsion system, which caused its eight -day debut crew mission to extend in a nine -month stay in the space for NASA Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams.

Mrs. Williams and Mr. Wilmore returned earlier this month in the Spacex dragon capsule.

The joint teams are working to finish the scope and deadlines for various campaigns and analysis of propulsion systems, directed throughout spring and summer, since NASA is prepared for the next flight of the Starliner.

Steve Stich, NASA commercial crew program manager, said the flight would probably be within the end of this calendar year or early next year.

Boeing’s effort to fix the Starliner’s defective propulsion system has been added to the spiny development of the aerospace giant of a spacecraft that has cost it more than $ 2 billion.
