Washington:
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Friday that he was open to carving agreements with countries that seek to avoid US tariffs, but that those agreements would have to be negotiated after their administration announced reciprocal tariffs on April 2.
Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump also said that he would soon announce tariffs aimed at the pharmaceutical industry, but refused to give details about when or what rate.
Trump told those that the countries of journalists, including Britain, had approached the United States to try to reduce agreements and avoid reciprocal rates.
“They want to make deals. It is possible if we can get something for the deal,” he said. “But yes, I’m certainly open to that. If we can do something where we get something for it.”
When asked if such agreements could occur before April 2, Trump said: “No, probably later. It is a process.”
