Fulham’s defender, Calvin Bassey, has been criticized by sports journalist Gail Davis for his role in Crystal Palace’s second goal during his defeat for the quarterfinals of the FA 3-0 Cup.
Bassey’s defensive period
Bassey, who has been one of Fulham’s best artists this season, was captured in the nearby position when Ismaïla Sarr scored from the Eberrechi Eze cross in the 38th minute.
Before that, Eze had opened the scoring in the 34th minute, and Eddie Nketiah then sealed the victory in the second half.
Speaking in Sky Sports, Davis criticized Bassey’s defense, describing that Fulham’s second goal happened in “Slow camera.”
“Eze put a lovely cross, but Bassey should have done it better. He allowed Sar to score too easily with a simple header.”
He also pointed out that Fulham had begun well, making his 2-0 deficit difficult to believe after the first 30 minutes.
Bassey’s strong season despite the defeat
Despite this setback, Bassey has been outstanding for Fulham this season. The Nigerian international, making only his second appearance in the FA Cup for the club, has played 30 games in all competitions.
He has also contributed two goals, scoring against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League and Manchester United in the FA Cup in Old Trafford.
