The Japanese authorities issued a medium level warning on Sunday for a volcano in the southwest region of Kyushu, telling people not to approach and that an eruption “can happen.”
However, there was no evacuation order for local residents near the Shinmoedak volcano, part of the Kirishimayama group.
“Volcano Warning issued for Kirishimayama (Shinmoedake) (near the crater) (volcanic alert level 3: Do not approach the volcano). An eruption may occur. Follow the instructions of the local government and stay away from dangerous areas,” said the Disaster Management Agency in X.
