The Manchester City administrator, Pep Guardiola, described his performance this season as “really poor”, since his team struggles to defend his premier League title.
City, who has won the League in each of the last four seasons, is currently fifth at the table, Liverpool leaders for 22 points with only nine remaining games.
Since he joined City in 2016, Guardiola has won six Premier League titles, but has never finished a season lower than the third in his management career.
When asked how he would qualify his performance this season, the 54 -year -old man said:
“This season? Really poor. The opponents never gave us a red carpet to win the titles we won in the past. My duty was to handle the situation better than me.”
He blamed the team’s struggles for “some details”, but he is still the hope that the next season will be different.
The city faces Bournemouth in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup on Sunday, with the aim of reaching the semifinals for the seventh consecutive season.
However, Guardiola believes that winning the FA Cup and ensuring a place in the Champions League will not compensate for its disappointing League campaign.
“It would be great to reach the final of the FA Cup and qualify for the Champions League,” he said. “But the season has been poor, and that will not change.”
The city head admitted that its standards have fallen, adding:
“Winning a title or ending among the top four will not change the fact that this season has not been good. We will be happy if we do, but we must accept reality.”
