After months of speculation, Nintendo confirmed The successor of his very popular switch console will be published on June 5, while he will cost £ 395.99 to buy in the United Kingdom.

But it is not so much the price of Switch 2, but its games that have raised the eyebrows, with the new Mario Kart World that is published alongside his huge £ 74.99 for a physical copy.

Fans will have to wait until weeks before you see what the new console and the new game look like – and if they are worth this kind of money – but here is what I found when Nintendo gave me a chance to try them both.

When I put my hand for the first time on the Switch 2, one thing has become very clear for me – as the name suggests, Nintendo wants you to know that it is a direct sequel to the Switch.

It is not like the jump from the Wii to the Wii U named Confuse, by exchanging movement controllers for a tablet which seemed dated even when the console released.

Instead, Switch 2 looks like its predecessor, with buttons in the places you are waiting for – and a much larger (and more pleasant) screen.

What is it to play?

It is just to say that Mario Kart World makes a fantastic first impression, thanks to the console having more power under the hood.

It seems spectacular compared to previous switching titles, although we always talk about cartoons of cartoons – do not be mistaken, the console is more powerful but it does not correspond to the higher PlayStation 5, not to mention PS5 Pro.

And in my three races, the out -of -competition feature was not the new emerging graphics or the controller, it was a tip that becomes the brand of Nintendo: making the news feeling familiar.

Although he had never picked up a switch 2, I storm my way to first place consecutive finishes, to the chagrin of those around me.

But it doesn’t come cheap.

The digital version of the game costs £ 66.99, it’s still £ 8 more for a physical copy – or pay an additional £ 34.99 for a version of Switch 2 with it integrated, pushes the console price at £ 429.99.

According to the industry expert, Christopher Dring, these prices behind portfolios are reduced to manufacturing costs – and to the price of President Donald Trump.

“These cartridges are exclusively made in Japan, which is a country that has just been affected by a price of 24% of the US government, and the threat of these prices may have had an impact on Nintendo price decisions worldwide,” he said.

Mouse control and Kong mouse

But there is more at Switch 2 than Mario Kart.

Fans will undoubtedly have been delighted to see the much awaited Metroid Prime 4, the first match in the series in 18 years.

But although they know the typical way of playing – moving and aiming with joysticks and shooting with the “A” button – there is also a new important feature.

At any time of the game, you can rotate the controller, put it on a surface and use it as a mouse. PC game fans will immediately feel at home with it, and it’s a bit of engineering to be able to change on the fly without having to enter menus.

Mouse orders were intuitive – with my thumb being strangely natural on the go while moving the mouse

Optical mouse checks also appear elsewhere, with the PC Civilization VII strategy game a game that benefits massively.

But in both cases, I wonder how long you can play with the controller like this before ergonomics became a problem. I must admit that I found myself asking myself why I was not only playing on my PC with mouse controls and a comfortable rest position.

However, the fact that this is integrated into the equipment means that we can see the Switch 2 as the obvious house of the future PC ports to house consoles.

And there is another tip in the Nintendo round – the two controllers can be held like this and used as mice, opening interesting possibilities. In particular, the futuristic basketball match Drag X Drive, where the two “mice” are pushed to imitate mobile wheels.

Elsewhere, Donkey Kong Bananza will be the first time that the APE mascot will have a 3D platform game in 25 years, so there was a certain pressure on Nintendo to deliver a game that justified the wait.

Nintendo fans with lively eyes will notice that Donkey Kong had a youthful treatment, with a much more user -friendly face and softened eyebrows

Holder of a better term, it is a Destruct-EM-UP-you can destroy a large part of the soil and the landscape at each level.

But there is again this new feared price. A digital copy will cost £ 58.99, while physical copy is sold at £ 66.99.

It seems that Nintendo has a lot to offer Switch fans – but that will take them a little.

Rivals and original

Some other titles that I have seen in action have been updated versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and Yakuza 0 – Both of big strikers on rival consoles which have been deemed too complex to operate on the original switch.

Like the other Switch 2 games, they looked good – and of course, they will benefit because the new console, as the original, can play games on the go.

The original switch has created the genre of the hybrid console – the one that works on a TV and as a portable system.

But since this launch in 2017, things have changed a little.

Now he has a rival in the steam game, a hybrid machine with the power to play most PC games.

Nintendo would say something that his rivals do not have, this is this long list of exclusive titles.

But there is a little theme here: Nintendo consciously opted for continuity.

The console is Switch 2, rather than having a completely new name. Many of these exclusives of which Nintendo is so proud are new games in established series, while others are remasters of modern classics.

The “Nintendo Switch 2” edition of the Smash Hit Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks better than ever with higher resolution and image frequencies – but will people buy the upgrade so little time after its first outing?

I had great experiences with these games in the 20 minutes I had with them.

But for fans to get value for these high prices, they will want something that takes place in the weeks and months of gameplay.

Will Sweet Nostalgia for Switch 2 be providing it? We will start to discover it in June.
