London, the United Kingdom:
The ruling labor party of the United Kingdom said on Saturday that he had suspended the parliamentarian Dan Norris after he was arrested under suspicion of sexual crimes against a girl and a rape.
Police said a man in his 60s was arrested on Friday under suspicion of sexual crimes against a girl, kidnapping of children and misconduct in a public office.
“It is alleged that most crimes occurred in the 2000s, but we are also investigating an alleged crime of violation of the 2020s,” added the force.
Labor confirmed on Saturday night they had suspended to the MP for the northeast of Somerset and Hanham in the southwest of England.
“Dan Norris’s MP was immediately suspended by the Labor Party by being informed of his arrest. We cannot comment more while the police investigation is ongoing,” said a party spokesman.
Norris, 65, was chosen for Parliament in 2024, defeating the high profile conservative deputy Jacob Rees-Mogg.
He had previously been in Parliament and served as a Junior Minister under former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
