Washington:
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Monday that he would like the war in Gaza to stop, since he received Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House.
Trump said the work was ongoing for Hamas free hostages, but said that ensuring the release of all hostages was “a long process.”
Israel launched the war after the fighters led by Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 as hostages, according to Israeli stories. Since then, Israel has killed more than 50,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities.
When asked if he would fulfill his promise during his campaign so that the president ends the war in Gaza, Trump said: “I would like to see that the war stops, and I think the war will stop at some point, that will not be in the future too distant.”
