“I made a real decision when I was 11 that I was not going to be like a typical teenager,” said Bella Ramsey.
Talk about an understatement.
As Bella was 13 years old, they were presented in the world’s largest television program at the time, Game of Thrones.
And when the actor, now aged 21, talks about BBC Newsbeat, it’s night after traveling the red carpet in the London first in the last season of the United States.
The shattered adaptation of the PlayStation video game was a critical success and evaluations, launching the young star to the full role status.
“I think it’s a fairly unique experience,” said Bella slightly, who is from Nottingham, England.
The rest of this article contains spoilers for the last season one.
Bella, who uses non-sexist pronouns, plays Ellie in the HBO drama, located in the post-apocalyptic future where humanity has been almost wiped out by Cordycepts.
The mortal parasitic fungus transforms humans into zombie type creatures, but Ellie is safe from infection and is the last hope of humanity for a remedy.
During the first season, viewers saw a father-daughter relationship slowly flourish between Ellie and Mercenary Joel, played by Pedro Pascal.
After escorting the 14-year-old in a dangerous trip through the United States to meet doctors working on a vaccine, he becomes apparent Ellie must die for a potential remedy to be produced.
Rather than sacrificing it, Joel kills doctors and fled with the unconscious teenager.
When she wakes up, he lies on what happened, and the end of the end of the cliffhanger leaves viewers with the strong impression that Ellie is well aware of the deception.
So when the new season begins, five years later, “obviously, there are tensions in this relationship,” explains Bella.
“It was quite horrible to play.”
The young Bella’s wish not to be a “typical adolescent” was actually less about their career and more about their relationship with their parents, they say.
No howling games, no click doors.
“So I never crossed this with my father,” said Bella. “Me and my father are great.”
“So it was a little sad to do that with Ellie and Joel.”
But, adds Bella, Ellie “is very justified in her feelings about everything”.

Ellie is 19 years old in season two, not too young than Bella, who started shooting the first series in 2021.
The number two was delayed by Hollywood 2023 strikes, so many things have happened for Bella in the meantime.
There is symmetry there.
“It’s so fun to take a step back in a character but with a kind of new revelations about it and on me in my own life,” explains Bella.
“There is always like a fusion of me and whatever the character I play and it happens to Times 10 with Ellie because I spend so much time in his skin.”
Bella recently spoke publicly about the diagnosis of autism while working on the first series of the show.
“It was something that I didn’t really think too much before,” said Bella.
“In fact, no, it’s a lie.
Bella says that the opening allowed them to “be a little more free” and hopes that it will inspire others.
“You can be in industries like this and openly say that you are autistic, why there should not be a kind of stigma around that and such fear around that,” said Bella.
“I am therefore very proud to be able to say it out loud and also to bring more awareness.
“Autism presents itself in all different forms and sizes, and I am not someone that people may generally see and would go like” Oh, you are autistic “.”

Bella is also identified as non -binary, and the new series of the last of us explores the homosexual relationship of Ellie with Dina, played by Isabella Merced.
“I have the impression that we have always understood how to portray queer scenarios in the media in a way that seems very authentic, but which also seems very authentic in terms of history,” explains Bella.
“This is what the last of us does so well, I think, with Ellie and Dina.
“It does not have the impression that it is like a representation added at the top to check a box – it really has the impression that it is just a part of the story.
“It was therefore what was exciting to describe this kind of relationship in this medium.”
The last of us has already been put into service for a third series after a positive critical reception for season two, so Bella – and Ellie – will still grow in the eyes of the public for a while.
This is something that “comes with advantages and disadvantages”, explains Bella.
“But it is a bit charming that my growth and my development have been immortalized on the screen.
“I am very grateful.”
But Bella says there is one thing that is not easier.
“The more you grow, you just realize how much you know, I think. And I think it’s something that Ellie also discovers.”
The last of us, season two, launches on Sky and Streaming Service now on Monday, April 14.
