The producer of Paddy Higson films died at the age of 83 after a battle against cancer

The producer of veteran Paddy Higson film died at the age of 83 after a battle against cancer.

She was known for her work with director Bill Forsyth, with whom she made films, including the Classic Gregory Girl from 1981.

In an article on social networks, her family said they had been surrounded “by so much love” before her death.

The actor David Hayman described it as “the mother of the Scottish film industry”.

Higson began his career with the BBC in the 1970s as a production secretary.

Later, she worked at Forsyth and Peter Mullan, making films like the Madeleine Sister and the orphans.

On the small screen, she also produced episodes of Taggart, Glen monarch and cardiac arrest.

Despite her retirement, she continued to work on the Katie Morag children’s television show and led the GMAC cinema charity.

She also created several projects helping other young people to industry.

In 2018, Hayman presented him with a Scottish Bafta for his exceptional contribution to the Scottish film industry.

By displaying on social networks, his children said that his funeral would be organized in due course.

They wrote: “Not only did we all lose our incredible and extraordinary mother, but as a wider community, we lost a kind and generous pioneer, united and altruistic.

“We have a broken heart, but we find it comforting to know that it no longer suffers.”
