Vatican City:

Pope Francis thanked the members of the medical team who saved his life on Wednesday during a five -week hospital for a serious case of double pneumonia, gently speaking but breathing without oxygen at the meeting in the Vatican.

Pontiff, 88, makes more public appearances as he recovers from the largest health crisis in his 12 years in paper. On Wednesday morning, he met with about 70 doctors and employees of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where he was treated for 38 days.

“Thanks for your hospital service,” said the Pope in a soft and hoarse voice. “It’s very good. Keep it up.”

As during his last public appearance, on Sunday, the Pope did not use oxygen.

The Pope’s medical team has urged him to rest two months after leaving the hospital to allow his body to heal completely. Initially, Francis remained out of view after returning home, but now he has made several short public appearances.

The Vatican on Thursday will begin his busiest season, with at least six religious celebrations in four days, including Easter, the most important Christian holidays, Sunday.

It is not yet known how much the Pope will participate in the events. The Vatican has delegated the Senior cardinals to lead each of the celebrations at the Pope’s place.
