The Premier League has officially declared that the defender of the city of Ipswich, Leif Davis, was expelled by “endangering the security of an opponent” during the defeat of his team against Arsenal.
Davis received a direct red card from the referee Chris Kavanagh after a dangerous challenge in Bukayo Saka, in which he rake the posts by the back of the Arsenal Achilles. Saka stayed with visible pain and required several minutes of treatment before continuing.
The incident was reviewed by VAR, which confirmed the referee’s decision. In a publication about X (previously Twitter), the Premier League wrote:
“The call of the red card referee to Davis for a serious dirty game was verified and confirmed by VAR, with the challenge that is considered to endanger the security of an opponent.”
At the time of the red card, Ipswich was already dragging 2-0, with goals from Leandro Trosssard and Gabriel Martinelli putting the arsenal in control.
The former Arsenal defender, Matt Upson, analyzing the game for BBC Radio 5 Live, criticized Davis’s challenge, calling him “very poor” after reviewing the images.
“I can totally understand the red card when that Tackle breakd down. It’s very intentional,” Upson said.
The dismissal in addition to the possibilities of Ipswich in the party, and the support of the Premier League decision highlights its firm position on the dangerous game.
