Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, returned by Nottingham Forest on Monday night when they secured a 2-1 victory at Tottenham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Both Awoniyi and his partner Super Eagles player, Ola Aina, had been out for two weeks with minor injuries. Upon entering the game, it was uncertain if either would be enough to appear.
When the team’s alignments were released, Awoniyi was named at the bank, while Aina did not make the team of the day.
Forest started the game tightly and took the lead after only five minutes through Elliot Anderson. Five minutes later, Chris Wood thought he had achieved 2-0, but his goal was discarded offside.
Wood finally doubled Forest’s advantage in the 16th minute, addressing a cross of Anthony Elanga. After that, Forest fell deeper, seeking to hit the spurs at the counter, and they went into the break with a two -go advantage.
Tottenham controlled most of the second half, but fought to create clear opportunities. Awoniyi arrived in the 76th minute for Wood and mostly helped defensive instead of moving forward.
Richarlison withdrew one for Tottenham in the 86th minute, establishing a tense ending. Spurs pressed for a draw, but Forest remained strong in the back to endure the victory.
