London:
Ukraine may have to give territory to ensure “temporary” peace with Russia, said kyiv mayor, Vitali Klitschko, to the BBC in an interview published on Friday.
“One of the scenarios is … renouncing the territory. It is not fair. But for peace, temporary peace, it may be a solution, temporary,” said former boxing champion.
His comments occurred after a Russian missile and drron attack against his city killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 80.
Klitschko told the BBC that he was “responsible for the capital of Ukraine” and that President Volodymyr Zelensky may have to accept a “painful solution” to achieve peace.
However, the Ukrainian people “would never accept the occupation” of Russia, he added.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, is pressing Ukraine and Russia to agree on an agreement, and it is reported that territorial concessions, including the United States that recognizes Russian Crimea control, illegally annexed by Moscow in 2014, are part of their proposals.
Russia launched a large -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and currently controls about 20 percent of the Ukrainian territory.
