There are films that work on in -depth research and make you introspect, and then there are others which do not have an ounce of practicality and which go to the list of surveillance of pleasure guilty of the public. The last original series of Prime Video, Call Me Bae, falls into this last category. It is essentially the story of a Bella “Bae” Chowdhary, rich in Uber, which was denied by his family and now tries to restart his life from zero in Mumbai.
Does that seem familiar? Well, it is because we have seen the scenario of millions of times in genres. Call me Bae strongly borrows the elements of similar work done in the past, notably Schitt’s Creek, 2 Broke Girls and Aisha of Sonam Kapoor. This would remind you of the fashion for Kareena Kapoor Khan of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham …, or the Sorority legally Bloon, the queen who has become -harvard, Reese Witherspoon to more than one opportunity – the classic trophy of an aerial weighted girl who, turns, is a genius!
Scenario
The character of Panday is denied by his family rich in Uber after being surprised to deceive her husband
If I had to give it straight, call me Bae Falls online with teenage dramas at the typical high school, which are raised on illusion and always have happy ends. Remember how Hannah Montana deceived everyone with just a wig and the magic world of Selena Gomez in Wizards of Waverly Place? The only difference here is that this original Amazon takes place at the present time, and unlike previous work, it largely integrates the omnipresent world of social media – and, of course, a higher budget.
Call me Bae begins with the Chowdhary of Bella “Bae” by Ananya Panday, shocked by his Delhi manor in a tempered rain. Accustomed to being transported by plane in helicopters, to head to Rome for a good pizza, or to offer cricket teams to dear beings, she is now sentenced. With none of her friends and family ready to help, they are just she and her Gucci suitcases, filled with millions of dollars in outfits and accessories, against the world now. Determined to turn his fate, our protagonist decides to rebuild his life from zero, in Mumbai. Through the following seven episodes, we see her trying to adapt to a new reality and rewrite her life story. Needless to say, it succeeds, sticking in the format of fairytale of the show!
The princess who has become a stepper feels many first: staying in an inn, cleaning herself after herself, eating white bread which, according to her, had died and had undergone a roof leak. It goes up for the first time on an auto-rikshaw and continues to label it as a more brilliant version of Mini Cooper: a comparison that I will feed my anxious brain each time the monthly budgets are low.
Even when she misses her previous life and worries about the future, she gives her new life an honest and remains optimistic chance. The best part? She does not give up her generosity, her kindness and her faith in humanity. She would give you a second chance, was fighting for your friendship and called a cat for a spade.
Call me Bae is full of references of pop culture full of mind and bling
The character of Bae has been written to shoot you from the world in the world of the world and restore your faith in the little good left in the world.
Although there has been a debate on the series, many theorists could suggest that at a certain level, Bae has always known that her family would finally find her, and she is about to enjoy the pseudo-potreté, a concept where the rich temporarily abandon their luxury to have a new experience of the way normal people live; For pure entertainment or a facade of self -discovery. Well, if you expect a practice in a production of Karan Johar, it is on you.
As always, Johar added cinematographic extravagance, and everything is being set up for our protagonist. Nevertheless, the series made me smile several times. Sometimes a reminder of how things can be served with a side of hope is exactly what we need, and the Panday series did it for me. Her Behen code (The sister code that makes you prioritize your female friends) in a simple recognition of being an imperfect human and yet deserving good things, these edifying tropes felt reassuring.
Although the series is even slightly linked to reality, things would be badly turned out for our young lady. In an economic scenario of Tanking where people stick to their toxic jobs due to an overwhelmed market, BAE obtains a well -paid internship in a prestigious news channel. That when its CV is only a compilation of eccentric courses such as how to communicate with your spiritual animal, your psychic pairing of vegan cheese and wines, the ethical design of emerald jewelry, cyberfeminism, how to change the world a tweet at the same time, the weaving of the underwater basket – the continuous list. If only we could go to this universe!
Bae d’Aanya Panday has done many original lessons in the show such as “how to change the world a tweet at the same time”
To call on the young toxican audiences of Instagram, call me Bae floods viewers of pop culture references who may not interest someone who does not know them. But if you are updated with the latest trends that catch the fantasy of young people, be ready for a fun section of streaming.
There are references to the rumor of the rumor of Jay-Z-Beyonce, to the post-Ooscars festivals of Jimmy Kimmel, and even to fifty shades of gray. Panday even quotes Joey Tribbinani’s popular dialogue of American sitcom friends: A moment on your lips, forever on the hips. This is probably why Prime Video specifically ranked the program for the “public of young adults”.
Anyway. I was particularly impressed by the way in which the spectacle skillfully captured the essence of social media in a fun and relatable way, effectively transmitting its omnipresent presence in our lives. Each time a character publishes online, the little emojis fly on our screen, and their Google research is displayed with a special pop-up, which means that the online experiences of the characters feel familiar. The edition here is quite impressive. Panday’s Netflix film, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, which was very shot on the subject, had also excelled in the performance.
However, call me Bae not only concerns breathtaking fashion choices, social media and pop culture. It slightly affects sensitive subjects such as solitude and the impact of childhood neglect. Not an excellent job there, however. While the pain of his life before in a pledge of gold resonates well through the screens, the severity of the problem is criminal mined. The lukewarm representation takes away from dark aspects and does not recognize it as a potentially fatal problem.
We see the BAE enrich moreover and speak to her handbags – which she has named – and hang on to each occasion to speak to another human, even if he is a homeless criminal in prison. She strives to validate foreigners on the Internet by even publishing the smallest updates in her online life. But that’s it. And oh, by the way, she has also done many eccentric courses: how to communicate with your spiritual animal, psychic vegan cheese and the pairing of wines, the ethical design of emerald jewelry, how to change the world a tweet at the same time, the weaving of the submarine basket – the continuous list. However, the Johar series refrains from covering the much darker aspects of loneliness, opting for a very lukewarm representation of the serious problem.
Characters
According to Karan Johar, Bae d’Ananyya Panday is the modern equivalent of Poo by Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
However, the series takes a serious search in contemporary journalism, in particular television journalism. The message is strong and clear: real journalism is on the point of extinction. We see talented journalists who are not allowed to take real substance stories – simply because they have no sensational angle with them. There is a junior journalist dressed in leopards and ghosts for a show instead of doing something fruitful. What metaphorical representation of the circus to which certain information channels have reduced today! There is even a magazine cover with a presentation text that is read as follows: “What to wear when you are surprised cheating”. Christ!
The comedian standing Vir Das shines here as a narcissistic journalist who believes that the nation is a “beast” that wants to feed on sensationalism. He would shamelessly disclose the personal life of people on national television and enlarged unrelevant facts in his reports to add the spices. For him, the Drama Pakistan comes out Drama and Office includes a luxury layer and a boxer. (Someone, please remind him that the days of work at home are over, and it is not a midday zoom meeting.) The cheap news tickers of his talk show read “our truth is better than your truth” and “this problem needs a fabric”.
In a scene, he shouts, “Mujhe Drugs do” (give me drugs) while alleging a wrestler to be boosted before a match. Do you remember someone? Well, we have special journalists who like to harass people in their shows on behalf of the nation who want to know. Should not be so difficult to guess. The satirical representation of DAS is on the point.
On the contrary, Das never hesitated to express his opinion on the country’s rotten political state and the horrible role of journalists contrary to ethics fueling decomposition, in real life. He seems to have found the ideal way to channel his frustration through his character in Call Me Bae, especially after having previously been prohibited from certain states in India for his alleged anti-no feelings in a Netflix Comial Special For which he then won an Emmy.
The series also has a brief cameo by independent journalist Faye Desouza, who is seen giving warm advice to serious journalists abandoning television if they want to make a real difference. Dsouza, too, is known to be brutally honest about the barbaric decomposition of journalistic ethics, and its brief passage in the show is perfectly logical.
Call me Bae Review: Verdict
Call me Bae is done well as a series of well-being where practice is replaced by the version of life of life
The Aanya Panday series may not innovate or dive deep into complex themes. In fact, it is predictable, cheesy and crushed with dumplings that will make you sigh. Recognized. But that’s exactly what makes it a fun and insane watch. Call me the tone of Bae is too enthusiastic, unrealistic optimistic and completely dreamy, just like its delirious protagonist. This is a program to which you turn when you want your brain cells to rest and feed on an insane comedy. Do not expect a brain or visceral experience; Call me Bae never promised to be one. We already have a lot of these films and shows.
Call Me Bae is a fantastic world where everything is set up, and our protagonist finds foreigners too favorable who become his best friends in a shocking period of time. It is a Karan Johar-Esque game, taking the best songs from his previous works. Although this is not a cinematic masterpiece, Call Me Bae has its unique pace. It is an original, delusional and attractive story that creates its own bubble.
