Rory Mcilroy has talked about his decision to make a week off after he and Shane Lowry ended up tied in the 12th in the New Orleans Zurich classic on Sunday.
The couple began on the last day five shots behind the leaders Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin, who won the tournament.
However, Mcilroy and Lowry found him difficult on the last day and finished six shots behind the American winners, deciding for 12th.
It was the first Mcilroy event since his victory at the Masters in Augusta on April 13.
Both Mcilroy, 35, as Lowry, 38, have decided to omit this week’s CJ Cup byon Nelson. They are expected to return to the Truist championship in the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Speaking about the tournament in New Orleans, Mcilroy said:
“Yes, it has been a fun week.
“I think that when we returned after the weather delay, we felt that we still had a good opportunity. But we didn’t do Birdie in Hole 11, and then boged the 13 for the second time this week.
“We simply could not generate any impulse once we restart, and it was difficult to put something.”
