ABA enters damage control mode after a contentious forum of the Wi2025 community
MAR 07 2025
A week after Winter Institute 2025 concluded in Denver on February 26, the American Library Association dedicated the Thursday edition of its weekly newsletter this week to respond to the criticisms raised in a contentious community forum of Wi2025.
During that forum, the booksellers criticized leadership and ABA Board for their refusal for more than a year of taking a clear position in support of independent booksellers who have been attacked by selling books about Palestine, as well as authors who are Palestinians and/or have been talked against the Israeli military campaign in Gaza.
Other speakers expressed concerns about the double standard, some related to compensation, in the treatment of the organization to its members. The booksellers had raised similar concerns in the community forum in Wi2024 in Cincinnati.
