Operai soon may require organizations to complete a process of identification verification to access certain future AI models, According to a support page Published on the company’s website last week.
The verification process, called verified organization, is “a new way for developers to unlock access to the most advanced models and capabilities on the Operai platform,” says the page. The verification requires an identification issued by the government of one of the countries backed by the Operai API. An identification can only verify one organization every 90 days, and not all organizations will be eligible for verification, says Openai.
“In Openai, we assume our serious responsibility to make sure that AI is widely accessible and is used safely,” says the page. “Unfortunately, a small developer minority intentionally uses Openai API in violation of our use policies. We are adding the verification process to mitigate the insecure use of AI while we continue making advanced models available for the broader developers community.”

The new verification process could intend to reinforce security around OpenAI products as they become more sophisticated and capable. The company has Published several reports On their efforts to detect and mitigate the malicious use of their models, even in groups supposedly based in North Korea.
It can also be aimed at preventing IP theft. According to a Bloomberg report earlier this year, Operai was investigating if A group linked to Depseek, the Laboratory of AI based in China, exfiltrated large amounts of data through its API at the end of 2024, possibly by training models, a violation of OpenAi terms.
Opadai blocked access to its services in China last summer.
