Carlos Alcaraz came from a set to beat Lorenzo Musetti and winning Mount Carlo Masters for the first time in his career.
The 21-year-old Spanish showed great skill and determination on the clay court, defeating Italian 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
The game was close to the first and a half set, but Musetti, who was chasing the greatest victory of his career, began fighting with a leg injury and could not keep up.
This victory gives Alcaraz his sixth Title of ATP Masters 1000, the first from Indian Wells in 2023, and his 18th race title in general.
He also gives him a great impulse of trust before his defense of the title of the France Open in May.
“It has been a really difficult week with many difficult moments,” Alcaraz said.
“I am proud of how I have handled everything, both on and off the court. All hard work has been worth it and I am very happy.”
Slow start, strong finish
Alcaraz began the game badly, with many mistakes, especially from his right. Musetti took the most, winning four games in a row and finishing the first set with an intelligent shots winner behind the baseline.
Alcaraz connected 14 errors not forced in the first set, 11 from the right, but changed things in the second. A Musetti’s lost right blow gave Alcaraz the rest, and from there it became stronger.
He showed more confidence, moved better on the court and even asked for support for the crowd after hitting a brilliant winner.
Although Musetti had five break points when Alcaraz served for the second set, the Spanish saved them all and leveled the game after a hard eight -minute game.
