Beijing:
China said Friday that it would slapped 34 percent of tariffs on all imports of American products from April 10 after Washington imposed new levies steep on Chinese products.
“For all imported goods that originate in the US, an additional 34 percent rate will be imposed in addition to the current applicable rate rate,” said Beijing’s Ministry of Finance.
The Beijing Ministry of Commerce also imposed export controls on seven rare earth elements, including gadolinio, commonly used in magnetic resonance images, and Ititrium, which is used in consumer electronics.
China will also file a demand before the World Trade Organization (WTO) on tariffs, said the Ministry.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, lit a potentially ruinous global commercial war this week by imposing 10 percent levies on imports around the world and hard additional tariffs in key commercial partners.
Trump announced particularly sharp tariffs of 34 percent in China, one of its largest commercial partners, in addition to existing taxes.
China quickly promised “countermeasures” to protect their rights and interests.
