Codasip Prime: RISC-V Development Platform enabled for Cheri
Codasip, the European RISC-V leader, has made available an exploration platform based on the core of the Codasip X730 application, which integrates Cheri (Improved Capacity Hardware RISCware Risc instructions).
Based on commercially available IP, Codasip Prime allows the advanced development of safe and memory safe software. The platform allows hardware and software engineers to evaluate and demonstrate the capacities of Cheri technology, develop and execute Cheri software, and integrate Cheri hardware into broader test systems.
Codasip Prime presents a high performance FPGA system (programmable field gate), including processor and peripherals, and a complete software development kit:
• FPGA Board and Bitstream that contain:
-Codasip X730 64bit RISC-V Cheri CPU application
– Peripheral and system IP
– Safety IP for safe starting and safe pur
-P Cheri specific (Management of Capacity Tags for DDR memory)
• Linux demonstration image ready to use
• Debugging probation
• Cheri software development kit
– Cheri Linux
– Cheri c/c ++ tool chain that includes compiler and purification
– Safe boot
– Qemu Virtual Platform Matching FPGA
“Our new platform changes game for consumer, automotive and defense companies, as well as adopting Cheri,” said Jamie Brome, product director. “Codasip Prime allows software developers to develop and evaluate their applications before the chips are built. In addition to the IP and hardware software, we offer engineering support of our experts in Cheri. Through our participation with the Cheri and Risc-V International Alliance, we ensure that the alignment is maintained with the standards of the industry, which allows the adopters to adopt. Early to trust that their integrations are future evidence. “
Cheri effectively avoids memory security problems
Security is growing rapidly in importance for companies due to recent legislation such as the EU cyber resilience law. Memory safety vulnerabilities are used in up to 87% of cyber chains according to a study. These attacks are very expensive. For example, it is estimated that losses due to the well -known Heartbleed error exceed $ 500 million. Cheri is the most profitable way to protect against memory security vulnerabilities. It is compatible back and allows migration to be safer, and makes memory c/c ++ memory, avoiding the expensive software rewriting.
Codasip is standardizing a Cheri extension for RISC-V in collaboration with other members of the Cheri Alliance, an organization of community interest that promotes the global adoption of Cheri security technology throughout the computer industry. The members of the Alliance include the University of Cambridge, Google, the National Cyber Security Center of the United Kingdom (NCSC) and the United Kingdom Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL).
Codasip X730 is the first commercial implementation of the new Cheri-Risc-V extension and is immediately available.
