The former leader of BBC Radio 2 News and presenter Colin Berry died at the age of 79.
Berry was a must for radio 2 from the early 1970s to the early 90s, welcoming the first shows of the slit and night, including Night Ride and you and the night and music.
He had become day presenters, including Sir Terry Wogan, and was a host on BBC Three Counties from 2004 to 2019.
He was also familiar to Eurovision viewers, reading the results of the British jury between 1978 and 2002.
By paying tribute, Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, said: “We all on Radio 2 were saddened to learn the death of Colin Berry, who was part of our family on Air for many years. We send our condolences to his family and friends.”
Berry began his career on the radio of the Caroline pirate station in 1965, before moving to BBC Radio Medway (now Kent), HTV in Cardiff and Radio 1 before settling on Radio 2.
He was the first night host of the station When he started 24 -hour broadcasts in 1979With a program that included a What’s ON guide and a kitchen slot machine “for those of our listeners who come home late and feel like a snack”.
He also appeared in television shows, including Top of the Pops, Blankety Blank and Get Live.
