Fyre festival 2 postponed by the american media

The dates and the planned location of the Fyre Festival 2 have been questioned, according to American media reports.

The restart of the Fyre 2017 Festival – which made the headlines of international newspapers, sparked a successful documentary Netflix and led the organizer Billy McFarland in prison for fraud – was to take place in Mexico from May 30 to June 2.

McFarland’s second attempt to organize the event was announced shortly after its prison release, with ticket prices ranging from $ 1,400 (£ 1,058) to $ 1.1 million (£ 831,534).

But now the organizers are looking for a new location for the festival, the dates planned uncertain.

A message to ticket holders said on Wednesday that the event had been postponed and that a new date would be announced, ABC News reported. The Festival website also briefly declared that the event had been postponed, according to NBC News.

The organizers said in a new update reported by NBC and the New York Times that Fyre 2 was “always on”.

“We check new locations and will soon announce our host destination. Our priorities remain unchanged: offering an unforgettable, safe and transparent experience,” said the update.

McFarland told NBC that the date depends on the location.

BBC News contacted the organizers of the Fyre Festival 2 to comment.

Uncertainty follows two local governments in Mexico saying that they had no planning file for the festival which, according to the organizers, would take place in their region.

In February, the organizers announced the location of the festival like Isla Mujeres, an island off Cancún.

However, the local municipal council posted on Facebook that “no person or company has requested permits from this office or any other department of the municipal government for the said event”.

The event was resettled with a new location in Playa del Carmen. Local officials said on X that “no event with this name had reached our city”.

“Following a responsible examination of the situation, he confirms that there is no registration, planning or conditions indicating the completion of the event in the municipality,” said a translation of the declaration.

McFarland and Fyre Festival 2 posted documents on Instagram which, they said, showed the approval of the event. A document indicated the authorization for 250 people in a place. McFarland had declared that 1,800 tickets were on sale.

For many, the latest developments will not surprise.

The original fyre was promoted by models and celebrities as an exclusive getaway for ultra-rich, and the location was excited as a private formerly belonging to Drug Lord Pablo Escobar.

But festival -goers arrived at the Bahamas to find all the talents canceled, bare mattresses to sleep in tents ravaged by storm and cheese sandwiches in take -out containers.

McFarland was sentenced in 2018 to six years in prison for fraud per thread and was also sentenced to 29 million dollars to investors.

He was released in 2022 as part of an early release program but remains in probation until August.

Last year, McFarland announced the restart, saying that “Fyre 2 must work”.

He said he spent a year planning it and had already sold 100 tickets at a “$ 499” rate. We do not know how many tickets have been sold to date.

No program for the festival has been announced.

Last year, Andy King, an investor of the First Fyre Festival, issued a warning to anyone interested in going to his planned restart: “Proceed with caution”.

Mr. King, who lost $ 1 million in the original debacle, said to the BBC This McFarland was “known for the greatest failure of pop culture and wants to return the script. But I’m not sure it goes there in the right way”.
