I spent the night in the NHL situation room, wanting to see the process before the playoffs. It was renewed earlier this year. It is real and spectacular.
Of course, something crazy happened.
This is what I saw during the Chicago/Montreal shooting:
The observer of the situation room that observed that game was the first to realize that Frank Nazar scored. What everyone else in the room knows it, and is in a headset for both the penalty box and the goal judge in the building. (The goal judge is the one who has access to the sand horn).
Ice officials did not see the album lodged on the network and went to get a new one. I am not sure of what happened in the building, but Patrik Laine began his focus before everyone could be notified.

If I were a television spectator, fan of the building or Brendan Gallagher of the Montreal Canadiens, I think the notification was late. But, after having seen it in person, the notification came on time and perhaps the officials in Arena did not want to stop Laine after having started their approach. (I am asking me, or anything said here).
It is frustrating for Canadians, and their fans, fighting to reach the playoffs. Nazar definitely scored and was verified, but the message did not reach everyone as fast as necessary.
