“I feel stronger, safer and more empowered since I began to practice self -defense,” he said in an previous Instagram publication. “I feel it is an important ability for everyone, but especially for women.”
In an interview in the camera with Fox News Digital, the three brothers Valente, Pedro, Gui and Joaquim, based in Miami, Florida, shared why a practice of self-defense such as Jiu-Jitsu is a great physical and mental training for the whole family.

Jiu-Jitsu art
Martial art, which originated in the Samurai warriors in medieval Japan, began to become popular in the United States during the twentieth century, when the then President Teddy Roosevelt practiced it in the White House.
During the last 30 years, the Valente brothers, whose family is originally from Brazil and trained with the Brazilian martial worldwide worldwide, Helio Gracie, have specialized in the teaching of Jiu-Jitsu as a self-defense tool and a path to well-being.

Joaquim Valente shared that his instruction focuses on empowering people for various situations, such as a head key or preparing for a blow.

Gui Valente added that Jiu-Jitsu can also provide health benefits, noting that his predecessors were doctors, including his father, the great teacher Pedro Valente Mr., who was plastic surgeon.
“He often talked about how what he learned in the mats helped greatly with his career,” Gui said. “All the foundations of Jiu-Jitsu, the philosophical aspect of Jiu-Jitsu, can be beneficial inside and outside the mat.”

“Self -defense is a human need,” added Pedro Valente. “Our Jiu-Jitsu style gives students this opportunity, even if they are very busy with their lives, with business, work and family, they can still enter and learn a very powerful system of personal defense but in a very safe way.”
Jiu-Jitsu is an “exercise of the mind,” described the brothers, which makes it a great practice of full attention amid the stress of daily life.
Maneuvers to dominate
The brothers repeated that their philosophy 7-5-3, which represents the seven virtues of a warrior, five keys to health and three mental states, is lesson No. 1 by learning self-defense.
Simple techniques, such as learning to release control if someone grabs it by the wrist and pulls, or if someone places two hands around their neck with the intention of drowning, they are a basic need, said Joaquim Valente.

Another essential technique of Jiu-Jitsu is to learn to fall without injuring.

Pedro Valente also discussed the importance of emotional balance and the development of a “sense of balance” when it is addressed with danger.
“When you are in a state of panic, the frontal lobe of your brain does not work well, you will not be able to rationally decide which is the best escape route,” Digital told Fox News.
“The best personal defense is always avoiding. If you enter a physical fight, you are already one step back.”
Pedro added that having an emotional balance also helps to avoid “minor arguments, disputes, which will often lead to a fight.”

“The anticipation is key, and the only way to anticipate is to be present,” he said, emphasizing the importance of being connected to one.
“The presence is something that can really improve our mental state and, at the same time, allow us to anticipate a problem that could be happening around us.”
Personal defense in schools
The three brothers, who are all parents of young children who train, shared their goal for Jiu-Jitsu to be taught more widely in schools as physical education.
The brothers have led this movement in the Miami area, where some instructors have been teaching in some schools.
“We consider that it is the best form of physical education,” said Gui Valente. “It really complements academics … and what becomes physical confidence, improves children’s self -esteem.”

The brothers also emphasized that Jiu-Jitsu has helped students of all ages with weight loss due to the physical elements of sport, as well as nutritional consciousness.
“Self -defense is a human need.”
“You work all the muscles of your body and in different ways,” said Gui Valente. “You must be able to develop great resistance, because when you disguise yourself, you have to last 20 to 30 minutes, or even more than that.”
