Given Trump’s contempt for the judicial branch of the United States government, it is not surprising that his administration has taken the authoritarian step to arrest the judges for allegedly obstructing immigration actions.
Representative Jamie Raskin explained in a statement why Trump’s actions are not business as usual:
The Americans are observing the impressive news that Trump’s FBI arrested a judge in Milwaukee for alleged obstruction of an immigration arrest. While all facts are not yet inside, the implications of this arrest are chilling. This is a drastic escalation and a new dangerous front in Trump’s authoritarian campaign to try to intimidate, intimidate and accuse the judges who will not follow their dictates. We must do everything possible to defend the independent judiciary in the United States.
As Judge Wilkinson, a conservative Reagan person designated for the fourth circuit, reminded us of last week, this administration has shown unpleasant contempt for the Judiciary. They are breaking the judicial orders daily and try to dismiss judges who have received cautious mandates against their illegality. This contempt for the judicial function is now being armed, and the administration literally arrests a judge for alleged challenge.
All Americans must be deeply concerned about this mass escalation, and judicial democrats are firm for judicial independence. This is an unmistakable descent in authoritarian chaos.
What Trump is doing is trying to intimidate the judges.
