The BAFTA winner actor, Lee Montague, a star of the scene and the screen, died at the age of 97.
Montague was perhaps better known to have appeared in Bergerac under the name of Henri Dupont in several episodes and also presented in shows such as Sweeney and Second Out.
The death of Montague was announced earlier this week By the community library of Keats, where he was a lifetime president.
The colleague actor, the star of Monty Python, Michael Palin, led tribute to the storyteller of Jackanory saying that it was “always a pleasure to share a scene with him”.
The Keats community library said they were “deeply sad” to announce the death of Montague, describing it as a “very respected actor” which was also “vital for our success”.
Montague has toured with Laurence Olivier and Peter Brook, played on Broadway and had a long career in cinema and television, finding a niche by often playing difficult characters.
He made his debut on the big screen in Moulin Rouge in 1952 and then played in films such as Brass Target, Brother Sun, Sister Moon and How I Gagniez war, opposite John Lennon.
A student of the former VIC, Montague played Gregory Hawke in Eden’s climate in Broadway in 1952, then was educated in the entertainment of Mr. Sloane, and John Rawlings in the 1971 production of Who see him die by Tudor Gates at the London theater Royal Haymarket.
And he was the first storyteller of the BBC Jackanory children’s program in 1965, for which he won the BAFTA, telling 15 episodes.
In 2011, he trained a committee to establish the charity of the Keats community library, writing and playing with Palin, Robert Powell, Simon Callow and Janet Suzman.
The charity noted how “a very respected actor” which would be “very missed” was.
Palin said local ham and high newspaper He was “very sad to learn that I will not see Lee anymore”.
“He was such a good company, wise, experienced, empathetic, funny,” he added. “It was always a pleasure to share a scene with him.”
Actor Robert Lindsay added: “I am devastated by considering Lee as my theatrical father and I stayed in touch with him for many years!”
The playwright Sir David Hare describes Lee as “an accomplished gentleman”.
Montague was married to his colleague actor Ruth Goring for 67 years until his death in 2023, and they shared two children.
