Fenerbahce’s manager, José Mourinho, seemed to aim at a subtle excavation to the Galatasaray Victor Osimhen striker after his team won a solid 3-1 victory over Sivessor in the Super Light Turk on Sunday.
The goals of Anderson Talisca and a double of the second half of Dušan Tadić gave Fenerbahce his victory of the 22nd League season of the season, firmly keeping them in the race for the title.
Mourinho’s best striker, Youssef En-Nesyri, who joined from Seville in the summer, came out of the bank during the last 10 minutes, replacing Edin Džeko.
Although the Moroccan striker has not scored recently, he still leads Fenerbahce’s score table this season with 26 goals in all competitions, including 16 in the League.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho defended the form of En-Nesyri and seemed to hit Osimhen by pointing out that none of En-Nesyri’s goals came from the penalty spot, while six of the 21 goals in the Osimhen League were sanctions.
“About En-Nesyri … he was scoring for fun,” said Mourinho, as reported by Gzt.
“He has scored 26 goals without taking penalty. He went through a difficult period during Ramadan, but now he is recovering his strength. He shown that he has returned. It will be very important for us in the last seven games.”
Victor Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray last summer, is still the top scorer in the League with 21 goals and has been key to his position for title.
Mourinho also explained that En-Nesyri had started on the bench in recent games to help him recover properly after fasting during Ramadan.
With Galatasaray in 74 points and Fenerbahce about 71, the race for the title of Super Lig remains very tight. Mourinho’s comments can add more fire to the rivalry between the two Istanbul clubs while the season goes to its final stretch.
