New research has identified a common supplement that could boost longevity.

It has been found that Omega-3, a “healthy fat” that can help improve brain and heart health, also slows biological aging.

Researchers in Switzerland studied 777 participants from 70 to 85 years in a randomized clinical trial called DO-HEALTH for a period of three years.

Healthy medium age eating has this key longevity benefit

The participants took daily supplements of Omega-3 (1 gram), as well as a daily vitamin D (2,000 IU) supplement, and/or participated in an exercise program at home.

By measuring biological aging in individuals at the end of the essay, the researchers found that Omega-3 only slowed biological aging markers.

The study, published in Nature Nature magazine, found a rejuvenation of three to four months in biological aging, a 61% cancer risk reduction and a 39% reduction in the risk of before freedom (a state of risk that precedes fragility or weakness).

This effect was stronger when Omega-3 supplementation combined with daily vitamin D and at least 30 minutes of simple strength training three times per week, according to researchers.

The study co-author, Professor Heike Bischoff-Ferrari, from Basel University in Switzerland, shared the impact of the clinical trial.

“DO-HEALTH is the largest clinical trial until the date it shows that we can rejuvenate biological aging in humans over 70 years, and this with simple strategies,” he told Fox News Digital.

“As in the same essay, interventions also reduced the risk of cancer and early fragility. This is relevant to public health efforts.”

The teacher said that the study findings support the supplementation of 1 gram of omega-3 based on algae daily “as safe and effective.”

Fox News senior medical analyst, Dr. Marc Siegel, applauded the findings, pointing out that the impact in just three years is “significant, with an additive impact of vitamin D”.

The doctor said he believes that Omega-3 fatty acids can affect longevity due to their antioxidant properties.

“Inflammation is behind many chronic diseases that can shorten the health section and useful life, from heart disease to high cholesterol and cancer.”

Those interested in taking Omega-3 supplements should see their doctor to discuss potential benefits and risks, experts recommend.
