The Poco M7 5G was launched in India last month as the last entry -level smartphone from the Xiaomi performance -oriented. The handset is at the price of RS. 10,000 brand, and it has a SOC Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Octa-Core, 128 GB of integrated storage, a 50-megapixel rear camera and works on Android 14. It will compete with smartphones at similar prices such as the Samsung Galaxy F06 5G, Redmi A4 and Redmi 14c 5G of Xiaomi, 5G, Tecno Spark 30c, and Lava.

The basic model of the Poco M7 5G is at the price of RS. 9 999, while the 8 GB variant costs RS. 10 999. Poco sells the smartphone in three colors. But is it the best budget smartphone you can buy today? Read our Poco M7 5G review to find out.

Poco M7 5G Design: Difficult to identify differences

  • Dimensions – 171.9 × 77.8 × 8.2 mm
  • Weight – 205.4g
  • Colors – Green Mint, ocean blue (presented in this criticism), black in satin

The Poco M7 5G has a 6.88 -inch screen and a considerably large phone. The lower half of the back panel of the handset has a matt finish, while the upper part (which also houses the rear camera of 50 megapixels) has a smooth finish. The rear panel and the raised camera island are plastic, and these last sequins when maintained from different angles.

Poco M7 5G has a half-matte and half-brilliant rear design

If you watched the Redmi A4 of last year or the Redmi 14C 5G, the new Poco M7 5G should be very familiar. The three phones have the same size and display dimensions, while the Poco M7 5G and the Redmi 14C 5G both weigh 204.5 g. At a glance, the only way to identify the Poco handset among these three models is to search for the half-matte design and half shiny on the rear panel.

At the front, the Poco M7 5G sports an LCD screen with thick glasses at the top, left and right edges, and an even thicker chin. A Waterdrop Style notch at the top houses the selfie camera, and the front of the smartphone is identical to the aforementioned redmi phones.

The edges of the Poco handset are plastic, and there is a volume rocker and a power button on the right side, a USB type-C port at the bottom and an audio plug of 3.5 mm on the upper edge. The examination unit we received did not include a screen protector or cover. You get a 33W power adapter, a USB type-A to USB Type-C cable and a SIM ejector tool.

Poco M7 5G software: older Android version, preinstalled applications

  • Software – Hyperos
  • Version – Android 14
  • Last security fix – January 1, 2025

The Poco M7 5G works on Android 14, with the hyperos skin of Xiaomi on the top. It is a little disappointing to see it shipped with this version six months after the release of Google Android 15. The company claims that the Poco M7 5G will receive two Android OS updates (which means that its last major update will be Android 16) and four years of safety updates.

The Poco M7 5G comes with a handful of preinstalled applications (press to develop)

The hyperos skin seems to be optimized to operate on the Poco M7 5G, and the passage to the previous application and back is smooth. The unit we received had 6 GB of RAM, with a default disabled memory extension function.

Like the other smartphones in this price segment, the Poco M7 5G includes some preinstalled applications and games. These include Spotify, Snapchat, Linkedin, WPS Office, Facebook, Word Scarts: Crossword, Jewels Blast, Fun Tile and some bubble shooting games.

They are located in files called “more applications” and “games” which also invite you to install applications like Junglee Rummy, Ludo Supreme, MPL and Dream11. These applications can be uninstalled and the files disappear after their content is emptied. You will also need to deactivate advertisements on various system applications to prevent full screen advertisements from appearing when opening these applications.

POCO M7 5G performance: good value for money

  • Processor – Snapdragon 4 Gen 2
  • Memory – Up to 8 GB LPDDR4X
  • Storage – 128 GB UFS 2.2

There is a 4 Nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip inside the Poco M7 5G-The same processor feeds the Redmi 14C, and it includes two cortex-a78 cores (2.2 GHz) and six cores Cortex-A55 (1.95 GHz), with an adreno 613 GPU is slightly more capable than the Socdragon 4S Gen 2 SOC on the Redmi A4, and it can manage popular applications like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).

Games like Temple Run 2 and Asphalt Legends unite on the default settings without any problem. I also directed Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), which worked well on smooth parameters with the ultra -framerate option. The phone has no gyroscope, so you will have to make adjustments while moving your character in the game.

We have also carried out reference tests to see how the Poco M7 5G works against competitors such as the Redmi A4 5G, the G35 motorcycle and the more expensive HMD fusion, which also includes the same chipset.

The IPS HD + LCD screen (720 × 1640 pixels) of 6.88 inch) on the Poco M7 5G Poco has a 120 Hz refreshment rate. Although there is an automatic mode that switches between 60 Hz and 120 Hz, you can also select one of two manually. I activated the standard color palette in the display settings, which offered better color precision.

The display on the Poco M7 5G is shiny enough for most exterior scenarios

Poco says that the handset display has a maximum brightness of 450 nnits (and 600 nights in light mode). The screen becomes shiny enough during the day, unless you use the phone when it is extremely sunny outside.

Poco M7 5G cameras: decent day photos

  • Main camera – 50 megapixels (f / 1.8), pdaf, up to 1080p / 30fps video
  • Selfie camera – 8 megapixels

A 50 megapixel primary camera on the Poco M7 5G with a phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and an f / 1.8 opening. This camera offers lively and clear photos during the day, and the colors are accurately reproduced. The images captured with the rear camera have a lot of details, even when you zoom.

From top to bottom: samples of the primary rear camera, 2x zoom, portrait (press to develop)

The main camera has a 2x cropping option in the sensor, which allows you to zoom in on the subjects that are more distant. When there is enough natural light, this mode can provide decent photos of subjects which are slightly more distant.

When shooting images with the Poco M7 5G, I noticed that the application of the camera is quick to capture images in default mode. Unlike some other budgetary phones that take a moment to capture each plan, the Poco M7 5G recorded each image as soon as I operated the trigger.

If you turn images in low light scenarios, I recommend using the default photo mode (as far as possible) unless your subject is perfectly motionless or your environment is very dark. Images of animals and other mobile subjects taken with the default mode have more details (and more noise), but it is preferable to softening on captured images when night mode is activated.

Low light samples (press to develop)

The default camera application has two other modes – 50MP and portrait. The first capture of very detailed images and takes a while to record before the camera is ready to take another blow. However, if you want to capture images with a lot of details and do not take care of the additional storage required by these photos, I recommend using the 50 megapixel mode.

Without support for image stabilization, the Poco M7 5G captures trembling videos during the day and night when using the rear camera or the front camera. If you have a portable cardan, you may be able to alleviate this. You can save up to 1080p at 30 images per second using the rear camera and the selfie shooter.

Poco M7 5G Battery: a day and a half on a load

  • Battery capacity – 5 160MAH
  • Cabinized load – 18W (USB Type -C)

The combination of the 5160 mAh battery and the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SOC effective on the Poco M7 5G is sufficient to deliver more than a day and a half. This included a mixture of calls and SMS (with WhatsApp in companion device mode), light games, Instagram and X navigation, and streaming videos on YouTube.

Poco M7 5G is not shipped with a case in the box

During our HD video battery loop test, the Poco M7 5G lasted 11 p.m. and 10 minutes. Keep in mind that this is a synthetic test, so that the real world will vary depending on real use. The phone is shipped with a 33W charger, but the handset can only be billed 18W. It took about 1 hour and 50 minutes for a full load.

Poco M7 5G: final reflections

In Rs. 9 999, the Poco M7 5G is one of the most valued offers currently available in India. It offers 5G connectivity management and has a familiar design and offers decent camera performance during the day. The battery life and load speeds are also tied with other smartphones at similar prices.

It is disappointing to see the launch of the Poco M7 5G with Android 14 when Android 15 has been released for several months when its biggest rival – the Samsung Galaxy F06 5G – is shipped with the latest version and should receive four upgrades of the Android OS version. Other alternatives to the Poco M7 5G include the Redmi A4 (Revue), Redmi 14C 5G and the G35 motorcycle (review).
