Hollywood star Robert de Niro said he was showing his “love and support” for his daughter Alyn, after being transgender.
In a recent interview with the LGBTQ + publication ThemAlyn de Niro spoke of “entering this new identity”.
Airyn’s famous father tell the variety In a press release: “I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I like and I support Airyn as my daughter.
“I don’t know what the problem is,” he added. “I love all my children.”
The daughter of the actor of Goodfellas, 29, noted how she had started to spend last year because, as transgender women, “there is a difference between being visible and seeing.
“I have been visible. I don’t think I was seen yet.”
Alyn, daughter of de Niro and Toukie Smith, also said that actress Laverne Cox had been an inspiration and that she was now hoping to help extend trans visibility and honor her black queer ancestors.
“Trans women are honest and open, especially (in) public spaces like social media and see them in their success … I am like, what do you know? Maybe it is not too late for me.”
And with regard to the experience of being one of the seven children of Niro, she continued by saying that “no parent is perfect, but I am grateful that my two parents agreed to keep me out of the spotlight.
“They told me that they wanted me to have as much normal childhood as possible.”
