Russell Brand in charge of rape and sexual assault

Russell Brand was accused of rape, indecent assault and sexual assault between 1999 and 2005.

The charges relate to four separate women.

Brand has been interviewed several times by police since an investigation by the Sunday Times, the dispatches of Times and Channel 4 in September 2023 revealed multiple serious allegations against him.

In a new video Posted on X This afternoon, Brand said: “What I was never was a rapist. I never participated in a non-consensual activity.”

He added: “I will now have the opportunity to defend these accusations in court and I am incredibly grateful.”

In a brief statement, metropolitan police said that they had written to Brand to inform him that he was accused of an allegation of rape, an allegation of indecent assault, oral rape and two other chiefs of sexual assault.

The force said it was alleged that:

• In 1999, a woman was raped in the Bournemouth region.
• In 2001, a woman was attacked in the Westminster region of London.
• In 2004, a woman was raped orally and sexually assaulted in the Westminster region of London.
• Between 2004 and 2005, a woman was sexually assaulted in the Westminster region of London.

Brand was invited to appear before the Westminster Court of First Instance on May 2, but he would be in the United States.

In these situations, when a suspect can be abroad, prosecutors seek to agree on the return of the defendant. If there is no cooperation of a suspect, the authorities then plan to seek extradition.

In February, a civil affair for “bodily injury” and “sexual abuse” was deposited against the brand at the London High Court by an anonymous woman, called AGX court documents.

Jaswant Narwal of Crown Prosecution Service said: “We have today authorized metropolitan police to accuse the Russell brand with a number of sexual offenses.

“We carefully examined the evidence after a police investigation into the allegations made following the broadcast of a documentary Channel 4 in September 2023.

“We have concluded that the Russell brand should be accused of offenses such as rape, sexual assault and indecent assault. These relate to non-recent offenses between 1999 and 2005, involving four women.

“The crown prosecution service reminds everyone that the criminal procedures are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there is no report, comment or online information sharing which could in any way prejudice these procedures.”

The superintendent detective of the metropolitan police Andy Furphy, who heads the investigation, said: “Women who have reported continue to receive the support of specially trained officers.

“The MET investigation remains open and the detectives ask anyone who has been assigned by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with the police. A dedicated team of investigators is available by e-mail at cit@met.police.uk.

“Support is also available by contacting the independent charitable organization, the rape crisis at the 24/7 support line of rape and sexual abuse.”

Brand, who was born in Essex, became famous as a standing actor, performing the Hackney Empire in 2000 and later the Edinburgh Fringing.

Later, he was broadcasting, organizing national television and radio programs.

The turning point in his career occurred in the mid -2000s, when he welcomed Big Broch by Big Brother, a companion show in the extremely popular reality series Big Brother.

He provided the springboard he was looking for and led him to become one of the most sought after presenters in the United Kingdom.

Brand then welcomed the NME, MTV and Brit price ceremonies, had his own series of debates by E4 and faced the charity of the Live Earth concert.

But it was never far from the controversy, especially during the award ceremonies – which provided the kind of chaos live, everything that is capacity, where it was most at home.

His career included the organization of radio program on the BBC, in particular for 6 music and radio 2, between 2006 and 2008.

But the inappropriate telephone calls he made to the actor of Fawlty Towers Andrew Sachs during a show in 2008 caused a huge scandal – and finally led to his dismissal.

He rebounded with a career in Hollywood, with films like Founding Sarah Marshall and leading him to the Greek.

The last years have seen him take a new direction – especially since the start of the pandemic cocovated in 2020.

Brand increased his suite on Youtube while he was discussing skepticism surrounding the disease.

He has developed a cult of his opinions on politics and society, through videos that question the traditional relationships of a range of subjects and often amplify conspiracy theories. He also established himself as a well-being guru.
