“The American Ksenia Karelina is on a plane back to the United States. She was unfairly arrested for Russia for more than a year and President Trump assured her release. @Potus will continue working for the launch of all Americans,” Rubio wrote in X.
Karelina was sentenced to 12 years in a Russian prison after donating around $ 50 to a Ukrainian beneficial organization in early 2024.

The Wall Journal reported that Karelina was released in exchange for the liberation of the United States to Arthur Petrov, a double German German-Rusian who was arrested in 2023 in Cyprus at the request of the United States for export charges of sensitive microelectronics.
