Treasury Sec. Scott Besent intervened in the US tariff negotiations with other countries during an appearance of Monday afternoon in the “Kudlow”.

President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on imported goods from foreign countries last week, including a 10% basal tax and “higher individualized” reciprocal rates in certain nations.

Besent told the host Larry Kudlow that Trump is “better than anyone to give the maximum influence, so what he has done is to describe the rates on April 2 and then we gave the countries for several days to think about it.”

“As I advised in many shows on April 2, I suggested that foreign officials remain well, that they do not intensify and accompany us with their offers on how the tariffs will eliminate, how the non -portfolio barriers will drop, how it will stop their manipulation of currencies, how it will stop subsidized financing and, at one time, the President Trump will be ready to negotiate.

Trump reported today that he had spoken with Japanese prime minister Shigeru Ihiba. Besent and the American commercial representative Jameson Greer have been used to direct tariff negotiations with the country.

Besent said Trump “would also be directly involved in those negotiations.”

The Treasury Secretary said he had not seen any specific offer from Japan, but told Kudlow that “50, 60, perhaps almost 70 countries” have contacted the Trump administration that he was looking to negotiate.

“So it’s going to be an April April, maybe in June,” Besest said.

He told Kudlow that he expected Japan to have “priority” with negotiations “just because they appeared very quickly.” He also pointed out the important military and economic ties between the United States and Japan.

During its appearance, Besent defended the Trump administration using commercial deficits in its calculation to determine the reciprocal rates of imports from some foreign countries. He also noted that “academic studies have shown that they are non -tariff commercial barriers that are the real problem in the US.

Kudlow also asked the Treasury Secretary if a commercial agreement could be done with Japan in the next two weeks.

Trump’s main economic advisor says that the panic of the rate is “exaggerated” as the actions sink

“I will reiterate what I saw last week for countries that do not retaliate. We are at a maximum tariff level, and I hope that through good negotiations, all we will do is see that the levels are low. But that will depend on the other countries. And you know, President Trump will be personally involved in these negotiations, and he believes, as many of the United States.
