After President Donald Trump joked about wanting to be the Pope, Senator Lindsey Graham asked for the papal conclave and Catholics to maintain an “open mind” about the idea in apparent joke.
“I was excited to know that President Trump is open to the idea of being the next Pope. This would really be a dark horse candidate, but he would ask the papal conclave to the faithful Catholics who maintain an open mind about this possibility!” The senator wrote In X while sharing video of Trump’s comments.
“The first combination of the Pope’s president has many advantages. Being watching the white smoke … Trump mmxxviii!” Graham added.

Fox News Digital communicated with Graham’s office to comment, but did not receive an answer at the time of publication.
Trump joked on Tuesday that his “number one option” for the new Pope would be himself.

Then he continued to say that “he has no preference,” he added: “We have a cardinal who is out of a place called New York, which is very good.”
The president seemed to refer to Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who serves as Archbishop of New York.
