Ottawa allowed three goals of power in the first game of the series and ended the night with 38 minutes in penalties in the loss of 6-2.

He was asked Chief Travis Green coach about the calls against his team. Although he emphasized the importance of staying out of the box, he added that he did not believe that the indisciplined game was the only reason why his team was penalized as much as it was.

“We definitely have to stay out of the box. I will say that. At the end of the game, sometimes things can come out a little control from time to time,” Green told reporters after the game. “I thought there were a couple of calls that did a good job in the sale. It is difficult for the referees, but we cannot take so many penalties, that’s safe.”

During the regular season, the senators played a style of hockey that earned them 349 league penalties. In game 1, PowerPlay’s margin was 6-2 in favor of the Maple Leafs.

Despite the loss, the captain of the senators, Brady Tkachuk, believes that his team played well enough in game 1 to win and that less penalties could have changed the result.

“Obviously it is not the result we want, but it is clear as the day what the problem was, we took too many penalties, they scored us, and that is the game,” Tkachuk said. “That depends on us. We have to be more disciplined. In the first game of all, nerves and mistakes, as you want to call it, but now that it has happened, the mentality does not change.

Senators will even look for the series in game 2 on Tuesday night at 7 pm ET/ 4 PM PT in Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
