Super Eagles Sadiq Umar striker has strongly condemned the murder of 16 Hausa travelers in the state of Edo, qualifying it as a tragic result of ignorance and erroneous information.
The Royal Front Society, currently provided in Valencia, reacted after the reports confirmed that the victims, who were traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for Sallah’s celebrations, were falsely accused of being kidnappers and lynching by a mafia.
Taking to social networks, Sadiq criticized the misunderstanding among the ethnic groups of Hausa and Fulani, which he thinks feeds such attacks.
“Only ignorant do not know the difference between Housa and Fulani,” Sadiq published. “Hausa is a northern tribe with Muslims and Christians, and like any other tribe, there are good and bad people.
“It is the same with the Fulani, who have their own language (Fulatanchi) and are also formed by Muslims and Christians. Ignorance is killing people. We have good and bad people in each tribe.”
Sadiq’s comments reflect the frustration of many northern, which feel unfairly stereotyped in southern Nigeria due to the increase in tensions about the violence of shepherds and kidnappings.
His reaction has caused a broader discussion about the ethnic profile and the need for better understanding among Nigerians to avoid similar tragedies.
