Bangkok:

In Friday’s earthquake chaos, a Thai woman gave birth to a girl in a bed in a hospital while she was being evacuated.

The powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake centered on Friday shook buildings as far as the Thai capital, Bangkok, which led patients evacuated to the ground floor and external buildings for safety.

Kanthong Saenmuangshin, 36, had gone to the hospital for a routine check -up, but was delivered after the ground began to tremble.

Kanthong’s waters broke while the medical staff escorted her through the General Police Hospital in five stairs, and worried that she gave birth on the stairs.

“I was telling my baby, don’t leave yet,” Kanthong said on Saturday.

“Then they put me in a hospital bed and surrounded me a lot of medical staff where I just gave birth at that time. Everything was a shock for me too,” he told Reuters.

At that time, her husband was at work and could not get to the hospital on time for birth.

Relief came when his daughter was finally born. The floor had stopped shaking and her eyes brought happiness to Kanthong.

She and her husband have given her baby a nickname, “mink.” They have not yet decided their full official name, but they do not plan to give any name related to the earthquake.
