The alarm singer dies at the age of 66

Mike Peters, a Welsh rocker man, the alarm and an activist and a long -standing fundraising of cancer, died at the age of 66.

His group was trained in 1981 in Rhyl, Denbighshire, from the punk era and experienced a top 20, sixty-eight cannons, two years later.

He characterized an anthemic song style, but their unpretentious and earth-to-terre approach has earned loyal follow-ups on both sides of the Atlantic.

Peters lived with blood cancer for 30 years, following his diagnosis of lymphoma in 1995, then to have more chronic lymphocyte leukemia twice.

He was born in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, and lived in Dyseth with his 39 -year -old wife, Jules – who had fought his own cancer battle – and their sons Dylan, 20 and Evan, 18.

He received the MBE in 2019 for his Cancer Care services.

Peters – who had worked in the IT department of the Kwik Save supermarket – started the group The toilets in Rhyl in 1977, after seeing the sex pistols play in Chester.

After various changes in line-up, including the introduction of the guitarist Dave Sharp and name changes, The Alarm played their first concert in Prestatyn in 1981.

They would sell for sale around five million records and would also become the first Welsh musicians since Tom Jones and Bonnie Tyler in Crack America.

Thanks to a support machine with U2 during their American tour of 1983, the alarm gained transatlantic follow -up – not an inconsiderable success.

Their first album album declaration was released in 1984. In addition to sixty eight guns, he also included another favorite, Blaze of Glory.

The group had perfected their live performances by an extensive tour, and was also a reliable “Go -TO” support for the big names – which again included Bob Dylan, Queen and U2 – including a grateful crowd at the National Stadium in Cardiff in 1987.

Despite their trips, the alarm always had strong links with their homeland and Peters was able to live quietly in the north of Wales.

The group also published a Welsh language version of their 1989 album, entitled Newid.

Peters announced from the London scene that he left the alarm in 1991 but that he had continued to work with the poets of justice, the programming, including his wife Jules.

In 1999, Peters worked with cult guitarist Billy Duffy forming a group called Colorsound.

Duffy said he thought the Welshman “inspired millions of people” during his career.

“(Music) was his blood. Everything was an inspiration for him to express his feelings through music,” he added.

He reformed the alarm in 2000 and also worked as a singer for Big Country for a few years from 2011.

The alarm sold more than five million albums and had 16 singles from the top 50 in the United Kingdom.

The television presenter, and the former alarm Roadie, Gareth Jones, said that Mike Peters had been the “most important person” in her life.

He even gave her his nickname of Top gas, which has been held to date.

“I would never have had a career if it was not for him and it is a difficult day to know that he is no longer there,” he said.

Jones said the alarm leader had a positive effect on “everyone” around him.

“We loved together, we drank together, we played rock ‘n’ roll together,” he added.

“We will always be connected.”

He co -founded the Love Hope Force Foundation alongside his wife to help recruit donors from bone marrow during live music shows.

This also involved Peters and his musician colleagues bringing hikes in the Himalayas, to peaks, notably Mount Kilimandjar and Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, in his native Wales.

The director of the charitable organization, Kirsty Thomson, called him a “brilliant defender” of the NHS, adding that he “loved life like no one I know”.

The 2007 concert was billed in the “World’s High High”, watched by 3m online. In 2017, his Big Busk involved a walk between cancer services in each hospital in the northern Wales and ended at the Snowdon summit.

He would bring his message to Washington and Westminster.

Peters also filmed a documentary on his fight against cancer and one with his wife Jules for the BBC Wales for about a year in their lives and his restoration of breast cancer, when we still have time.

Peters joined Bruce Springsteen on stage at the Charity concert in 2014 and musicians who had joined the alarm for impromptu appearances went from Bono to Neil Young.

Peters was affable and accessible and tireless in his campaign – and continuing to visit his music through Europe and the United States, as well as the writing of new documents.

There have also been annual events on weekends in Llandudno – The Gathering – which brought together fans from everywhere to celebrate Peters’ music and alarm.

In March 2018, part of a visit to Germany was postponed after Peters underwent an allergic reaction to his drugs.

In 2025, he became sick again when his Richter syndrome – an aggressive form of lymphoma – returned.

He said it would have killed him within two months if he had remained untreated, the addition of music had kept him alive since his last diagnosis.

Peters said he hoped for highly specialized therapy Who “re-program” his immune cells would lead to a “free life of cancer”.

“It was devastating because everything happened in an instant,” he said.

“There was no chance to think about it.”

In 2018, he told the guitar World Magazine that his “simple message” was “to stay alive and appreciate every second that you have”.

“Live until the last breath and stay positive on the world, your family and the environment in which you live.”
