Another Switch 2 C button gap has come courtesy of the Nintendo Today application, on the eve of The Big Switch 2 Direct. While we still don’t know what the mysterious button does, now we know what sound it will do when it is pressed.
In a brief shared clip in Nintendo today, it is shown that button C, a mysterious input that is under the start button and is simply labeled as “C”, makes a cute noise when pressed. The clip is followed by a reminder that the Switch 2 Direct is happening today (in some time areas), when we presumably discover with certainty what the new button does.
The sound in the video is a classic piece of extravagant sound design of Nintendo, and some compare it with the distinctive MII sound effects. The revelation has renewed speculation about the function of the button, with the comparison of MII that leads some fans to guess that the C could represent “connect” or “community”, and enable the social characteristics for the console.
Another popular assumption is that button C is a capture button, and the sound in the video is the Nintendo version of a screen capture sound effect. Another convincing option is “cursor”, linking the ongoing rumors that Joy-Con of the Switch 2 will have the functionality of the mouse, in which case the C button could be used to change the entrance mode for the Joy-Cons.
