A Wisconsin woman sold her house to travel the world in a truck after her father’s unexpected death made her realize that “life is to live.”
Ashley Kay, 36, lost his father, Tom Kay, 57, in December 2015, according to a SWNS report.
After his loss, friends and family shared stories about his father’s trips.
This inspired Kay to see the world more for herself.
“The year after he died, there were so many friends and family who called and shared these wild and incredible stories about my father and his trips,” Swns said. “That pushed me out of my little town and visit places that I had not been before.”
Kay spent the following years traveling around the world.
On a trip to Roatán, an island in Honduras, Kay met a full -time traveler while diving. After talking to the man, who had left his job in Austria and had traveled the world without stepping on a plane, Kay decided that he wanted a similar life.
“He defends, he would get buses, Souch-Surf and that kind of thing,” he said, according to Swns.
While chatting with the traveler, Kay asked about the worst he had experienced on all his trips.
“His answer for me was that it was not before, and that was the drop that filled the height for me.”
Kay decided to sell his three -bedroom family home in March 2023 and buy a Toyota Tacoma of $ 44,000 for his trips.
He went to Low, Mexico, with his Black Laboratory, Porter, and has been traveling through North and South America since then.
His favorite place of all time to have visited is low, Mexico, a place that said “he feels at home.”
“It has such a beautiful nature, I love the ocean and the Cortez Sea is a place of pure joy,” he said, as the SWNS report said.
Some of the most challenging aspects of his trip have been related to the vehicle, he said.
“In the Desert of Peru, I was two and a half hours from civilization when I had to stop and solve a suspension problem,” he said.
He also experienced flat tires to an extremely high elevation. “In Costa Rica, I was camping at 12,500 feet and had a punctured tire, which I had to repair on my own,” Kay recalled.
“It is a lot of work to travel this way. The daily aspect of things is a lot of work that can easily become exhaustion.”
Unfortunately, in August 2024, Kay’s dog died, letting her travel alone.
Although he is not sure of what will come later without his travel companion, Kay said that the difficulties they faced have shaped their perspective in the future.
“In general, all problems are solved. You just have to solve it a little more and be patient.”
