The EM Dash is the score loved by writers everywhere, which functions as a comma, colon or parenthesis. It can be used to summarize the information at the end of a sentence, enclose complementary information within a sentence, emphasize a point or expand something that comes before, according to Merriam-Webster.
But according to generation Z, the longest script is actually a so -called “Hyphen Chatgpt”.
The phenomenon began to attract online attention after the Daisy Reed and Sapna Rao podcasters, coanfitations of the Podcast Luxegen, discussed it in a recent episode.
The clip went viral in X after a user shared it and wrote the legend: “The fact that zoomers refer to the Dash EM as ‘the Hyphen Chatgpt’ is wild.”
Reed said that the Prettylittlitthing clothing brand announced a brand change on social networks, and the superior comment on it said: “Including Chatgpt’s Hyphen is crazy.”
The hosts jokingly shared a “public service announcement” to “get the script” if you don’t want to be accused of using chatgpt.
Rao added that “if you are at school and you are using (chatgpt) for your trials, take the scripts. I can always say it.”
He pointed out that it is not anti-chaatgpt as long as he writes his own words first, but if he is using the platform for the purpose of editing, he must go through it and replace it in his own words. “Person, Chatgpt, person,” Rao explained.
According to Reed and Rao, EM scripts generally include a space on each side, and set aside that space means that chatgpt was used.
But the space around an EM board varies.
When the AP style is used, as most newspapers and popular magazines do, a space is inserted before and after the EM board.
Other points of sale, such as most books and magazines, as well as Mirriam Webster, omit the space, keeping what comes before and after the Dash Em in the executed text.
